Emerging Therapies

The world of medicine and healthcare is always changing and evolving in an effort to improve the care that we can provide to our patients. Our providers at the Washington Center for Pain Management are always looking for new technologies or treatments to better help our patients control their pain.

Regenerative Therapies

Dr. Mambalam discuss some of the emerging regenerative therapy options

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) – PRP therapy involves drawing some of your blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to extract the platelets and create platelet-rich plasma. Your provider then injects the PRP into the damaged or injured area. PRP is rich in growth factors that stimulate healing in those damaged areas. These growth factors and other healing proteins signal the immune system to come in and remove damaged cells and rebuild new tissues

Benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

  • Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP) – Multiple studies show platelet-rich plasma can reduce pain, and it can improve the knee function of patients with mild and moderate knee osteoarthritis. In addition, platelet-rich plasma injections may be an effective therapy for relief of diabetic neuropathy pain and numbness as well as enhancement of peripheral nerve function according to the article.
